The restorations and appliances used to restore and protect your mouth involve high levels of customization.  Traditionally, hours of hand labor in a dental laboratory are invested in these precise products.  With the adoption of more technology into dentistry, digital imaging continues to grow in importance.

Most restorations begin with a mold of your mouth that involves messy impression materials. With the Itero Digital Scanner, you can say goodbye to the mess. Itero eliminates this step, replacing it with simple digital images captured with a handheld wand.  The images quickly appear on a computer monitor as 3-D models of your teeth.  Our Palo Alto Dentists review the enlarged detailed images, ensuring that the information meets the Palo Alto Dental Care standard.

With a simple click of the mouse, the files are instantly transferred via the internet to begin the process of designing your restoration or other prescribed treatment.

Reduced shipping time expedites the return of your case to our office while ensuring you receive all the advantages of digital impressions:

  • NO messy impressions
  • INSTANT images for review
  • DETAILED reproduction for better outcomes
  • FASTER case completion
  • EXCEPTIONAL fitting restorations and appliances

We look forward to introducing you to the innovation of modern dentistry.  Itero provides one more reason to discover a different kind of dental experience at Palo Alto Dental Care.

INVISALIGN CLEAR BRACES Palo Alto

Invisalign® has changed the face of orthodontics. Instead of wires attached to your teeth, your teeth can now be straightened invisibly.

There’s never been a better time to straighten your teeth with the most advanced clear aligner in the world. Our office is proud to be a certified provider of Invisalign clear aligners, which give you a clear, convenient, and comfortable option to achieve the smile you’ve always wanted.

THE INVISALIGN DIFFERENCE

There are all sorts of orthodontics on the market right now, and there’s no doubt that each version has benefits for the patient. There is one style, however, that we believe in above all of the others. Invisalign clear aligners, especially when compared to traditional metal braces, has so much to offer our patients that we find it difficult to recommend anything else! Take a look at some of those reasons below.

WHY INVISALIGN CLEAR BRACES?

Invisalign Clear Braces Palo Alto

Faster treatment: With weekly aligner changes, you’re on your way to the smile you want even faster. Depending on your response to treatment, particularly in mature adults, we may consider longer periods between aligner changes.
Proven results: SmartTrack® material and SmartForce® features are clinically proven to improve control of tooth movement with Invisalign clear aligners.

Better fit: Aligners made from SmartTrack material are comfortable, fit well, and are easy to put on and take off.

Effective: Invisalign clear aligners can treat a wide range of teeth-straightening conditions, including crossbites, crowding, open bites, gapped teeth, overbites, and underbites.

Virtually invisible: Most people won’t even know you’re going through treatment, because Invisalign aligners are virtually invisible!

Comfortable: Invisalign clear aligner trays are not only smooth and comfortable to wear, but they’re also removable. That means you can continue doing all the things you normally would, from brushing and flossing to eating whatever you like.

Convenient: Invisalign treatment is ideal for your busy schedule, since you only need to visit our office every six weeks.

Chewing Your Nails
This nervous habit can chip teeth and impact your jaw. Placing your jaw in a protruding position for long periods of time can place pressure on it, which is associated with jaw dysfunction.
Solution: Stress reduction and holding something to keep your fingers busy if certain situations are triggering.

Brushing Too Hard
Brushing with a hard toothbrush, or brushing too hard, can damage your teeth and irritate your gums.
Solution: Use a soft toothbrush with the ADA Seal of Acceptance at the proper pressure. Don’t think ‘scrub’ think ‘massage’.

Grinding and Clenching
Grinding and clenching causes muscle tenderness and joint pain, not to mention chipping and cracking of the teeth.
Solution: A mouthguard at night can help along with relaxation exercises and staying aware. You will have less pain, soreness and tooth damage.

Chewing Ice Cubes
Most of the time the ice will break when crushed between your teeth, but sometimes the tooth or a filling will break.
Solution: Drink chilled beverages without ice, or use a straw so you’re not tempted. The pleasure that comes from chewing ice is not as great as the risk of chewing it and breaking a tooth.

Using Your Teeth As Tools
Your teeth are not a pair of scissors, they are for eating. You put your teeth at risk for cracking or injuring your jaw when you use them as tools.
Solution: Stop and find something or someone to give you a hand. Your mouth will thank you.

5 TIPS FOR CALMING YOUR DENTAL ANXIETY

5 TIPS FOR CALMING YOUR DENTAL ANXIETY - Dentist Palo Alto

DENTAL ANXIETY

Dentist Palo Alto

Missing dental appointments due to phobias not only can prolong your dental discomfort, but it can also add to your anxiety because you may feel guilty for missing dental offices.

Here are some tips and tricks that will help you relax so you can get the care you need.

1. Talk With Your Dentist

Having an open dialogue with your dentist can help you. Dentists understand that people have phobias about being at the dentist because they’ve helped other people like you.

2. Chill Out with Music

Bring your music and headphones for your appointment. Music is especially useful if one of your specific anxiety triggers is the sound of the dental office. You may need to listen for directions from the dentist or team, so keep the volume at a reasonable level.

3. Meditate into Tranquility

There are some great meditation apps where you can learn how to put yourself into a more relaxed state. The great thing about this is that it can help you with more than just your dental anxiety.

4. Imagine Your Happy Place

This visualization technique can seem overly simple, but sometimes simplicity is just what you need. Just close your eyes, and imagine the one place in the world that makes you feel the most at ease. Imagine the park, the beach at sunset, or another scene in your mind and pretend you are there.

5. Sedation Options

When being open with your dentist, listening to music, visualization, or mediation doesn’t help your dental anxiety; it’s time to consider sedation dentistry. Often with sedation dentistry, you’ll be relaxed enough that the dentist can provide you with the necessary treatments, and they can accomplish more in one appointment to prevent having to prolong how long the full treatment plan will take. It can be easier to know you have one significant appointment rather than several smaller appointments.

Better Oral Health, Better Immune System
Palo Alto Dentists  Dr. Mikhail Nasakin & Dr. Galina Nasakin

During these times of worry regarding COVID-19, it is important to do everything you can to boost your immune system. Taking better care of your mouth will give you a better immune system. Enjoying a proper diet with essential nutrients helps to avoid diseases and chronic health conditions. A diet that is low in sugar will make it easier for your mouth to make less decay-causing plaque. Plaque is a byproduct of bacteria in your mouth and sugars in your foods and drinks. It’s also what leads to tooth decay and gum disease.

Preventative Dental Care
If you currently have gum disease or are susceptible, you should brush and floss more to reduce symptoms. The American Dental Association recommends brushing and flossing twice a day. If you have an autoimmune disease or diabetes, you should brush more often than this. You should also be seeing your dentist at least 2 times a year, if not every 3-4 months. Regular dentist visits can help keep your oral health in better check to reduce your immune system problems. Better oral health can lead to a significantly better immune system.
